The co fostering programme enables young people to live in private homes, where they can experience the love and joy of being brought up in a family.
The harsh reality is that many of the children that come to JCF have either been orphaned or abandoned by their immediate family. JCF work tirelessly to track down the immediate or extended family and assist with reuniting the young people with them, subject to safety checks. There are regular follow-up visits and counselling to ensure healing and reconciliation between the child and the family.
JCF provide support with food items, clothing, and toiletries to avoid putting further strains on the family. The young people are also encouraged to attend school and JCF will assist with the costs involved in that. In addition, the families are given financial assistance to start a project through which they can earn some income.
In 2008 30 children were co-fostered with their families. This number was almost matched in the first half of 2009 and in all 150 reunited children currently receive support. In addition there are 235 children at Chikomba who receive very similar help. They, however, never left home but were likely to end up destitute without JCF intervention.
